Banana Project / SOOWON CHAE
Five chairs ( Banana fiber in soft materials, Tree's trunk and Bio-resin in hard composite)

Banana Project, 2016

Toilet should no longer be a tomb of shit,

Toilet should be the doors of life that open the cycle of nature

After harvesting bananas, the banana tree's trunk is removed for new fruits. In this process, an incredible amount of biomass is created every year.

Banana fiber comes from the trunk of banana trees. So, using banana fiber can be both sustainable and environmental-friendly so that it has a full of potential in terms of usefulness.

For the final outcome, I put the very characteristics of banana fiber in soft materials, and suggest the hard composite with the tree's trunk and bio-resin: drawing out both the soft and hard qualities of banana trees.
